Salvation

Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43

Jesus spoke these words to the thief who was dying on the cross next to him. A thief! Not someone we would describe as a “good person.” Probably someone we might consider a “lost cause.”

We have to admit none of us should really be described as a “good person,” either. The truth is each one of us is guilty before God. Only Jesus is truly innocent, truly good. This reminds us that Jesus didn’t come for the “good people who deserve him.” He came for the truly undeserving. He came for you. He came for me. “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15). Jesus died to forgive our every wrong and our every failure to do good.

On a piece of paper, write the name (or, if you’d rather not write the name, draw a symbol to remind you) of a person you know who seems like a “lost cause.” Keep the paper as a reminder to pray for that person daily, knowing that Jesus doesn’t see anyone as a “lost cause.” Look for opportunities to share Jesus’ love with that person.
